Kardashians going strong

TO say that a lot has changed for the Kardashian family over the past decade since popular TV series Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK) premiered is probably an understatement as we’re still keeping up with this famous family till today.

From relationship dramas and new family additions to growing business empires, we’ve seen it all unfold in 13 seasons, and we’re about to be served with another roller coaster ride in Season 14 which will premiere next month on E! (Astro channel 712).

The famous sisters — Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie — together with momager Kris Jenner teamed up to recreate the original Keeping Up With The Kardashians Season 1 opening credits for a fun Season 14 promo. And it’s super nostalgic for fans who have been keeping up with them since the beginning.

Remember the original sequence where the family rushes in front of a cityscape background with Kim trying to steal the spotlight, before little Kylie pulls a cord and the backdrop falls to reveal their family home? Well, the newly recreated promo is similar to that, except that it’s escalated with a modern twist, and a whole lot of glam.

“We were so excited about this promo, because we’ve been begging to redo the opening credits for years as we have grown up so much. Now we all have different styles, and my little sisters looked so different back then. We thought it would be a good idea to redo it for our 10th anniversary. It was so funny to recreate the opening credit and we all just loved the idea of it,” Kim said in an exclusive telephone interview with the New Straits Times recently.

So, after 10 years, what more can viewers expect in the new season?

“This new season is really exciting. There will be a few surprises along the way. I think every season has its own mood; last season was kind of dark and sad with so many things that had happened.

“This season, we’re all back to being fun and happy. I think fans will really enjoy this season,” said Kim, 36, who is married to rapper Kanye West.

Last week, a special 10th anniversary episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians was aired on E!, where Ryan Seacrest (who serves as executive producer of the show) sat down with the Kardashian women to take a walk down memory lane and relive some of their most memorable moments on and off camera.

“It was fun to get the whole family together. Ryan started it all and it was great to have him interview us as he’s been with us from the beginning. Just watching all the old footage was really fun too.”

STRONG STAYING POWER

Their decade of dominance on the small screen have turned them into major pop culture influencers, but Kim confessed that she had never imagined the show would have such strong staying power. The series has turned each member of the family into a household name.

“We definitely didn’t expect it because we thought we were going to go with just a season or two, depending on whether people liked it. Looking back 14 seasons later, coupled with spin-offs, it feels surreal that we managed to stay on air for this long,” she said.

Does she miss life before cameras followed her around? “Well, I would like a day off sometimes to go totally incognito, and just randomly go to the book store or grocery store. But I’m not complaining, I mean I’m happy with the show as it has brought me such great opportunities,” she added.

Having a reality show brings a lot of positivity for Kim, one being how strong she and her family have become over the years. “We have always been a really close-knit family but working together every single day definitely makes us closer and stronger as we spend so much time together.

“When we’re filming something and we get into a fight for example, it pushes everyone to make up knowing that we have to work together as a unit,” she said.

Asked if cameras would still be following her around for Keeping Up With The Kardashians 10 years from now, she said: “I kind of have a feeling they will but we’ll see. I’m not tired of it yet.”
