(Showbiz) Pretty pirate: Indah Ruhaila aping Dayang Nurfaizah's style?

KUALA LUMPUR: They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, not according to singer Indah Ruhaila who has been accused of trying to copy the image of powerhouse singer Dayang Nurfaizah’s sizzling style.

Fervently denying the claim, the former AF Megastar contestant said that it was never her intention to look like Dayang and that the similarities, as pointed out by Netizens, were purely coincidental.

In a recent news report, Indah said that she never took notice beforehand of the attires she had don each time for her onstage performances during her time on AF Megastar, since the matter was handled by a stylist and fashion designer.

"My focus was solely on preparing myself for my performances, while the way I looked and my clothes were specifically managed by Latifi, my stylist and fashion designer.”

“To me, this fuss was just a coincidence since my visual references were not even from local artistes but international ones,” she said.

Last Sunday evening saw the 32-year-old singer missing her chance to advance to the semi-finals of AF Megastar, after she got booted out.

Her medley performance at the concert held at the Royal Theatre in Shah Alam last Sunday, of the late Puan Sri Saloma’s Mari Jalan Bersama, Gelora and Bila Larut Malam scored the lowest points among the contestants at 22.6 per cent.

Indah admitted that she felt a little uneasy about the unfair comparison as she thought that there would be people who would actually believe it to be true.

"Honestly, it’s an honour to be compared to one such as Dayang but my worry is that the public would think that it was my very intention to just copy her wholesale, which wasn’t the case at all.”

“We are two very different individuals,“ she added.

On her elimination, Indah said: “I’m a little sad and a little happy at the same time. I gave my best but I suppose it is not my destiny to make it to the next stage.”

The singer let on that she was sad to be separated from her good friend Idayu, who is still in the running.

Indah added that she was confident that Idayu would emerge as champion of AF Megastar and that she really deserved the title.
