(Showbiz) Rocker Amy to journey to Nepal's ABC

KUALA LUMPUR: Like daughter, like father. After actress Nabila Huda successfully trekked up to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) in Nepal last September, looks like her father, rocker Amy of Search, is also inspired to do the same.

According to a news report by HM Digital, the 59-year-old artiste had already began training with a group of 19 other climbers in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor last September 18 and 19.

Amy, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, said that he was extremely thrilled during the first day of the training.

“The other climbers were also really excited about it judging by the expression on their faces. A big thank you to the SAR team, who conducted the briefing, provided the gear and drew up a suitable training schedule. Their experience over there was very important to me and our group in preparing ourselves both physically and mentally,” he said.

Amy added that he was also thankful for the support from his wife and children who had always encouraged him to try out new things.

“God-willing, our journey to the place will be one without any incident,” said Amy, who had climbed Mount Kinabalu before and is an avid fan of scuba diving, cycling, sky diving and running.

Although he is currently busy promoting Search’s latest album, Katharsis, and preparing for an upcoming show, Konsert Gegaran, which takes place on Saturday, Amy still made time to take part in training sessions with the other trekkers in order build up his stamina.

According to the director of SAR, Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, the activities that Amy and the rest of the trekkers went through during the training included an expedition brief on high altitudes, a health screening, an Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) fitness test, cycling and climbing Bukit Kutu in Kuala Kubu Baru.

The Annapurna Base Camp expedition with Amy Search 2018 will take place in April next year and will see 30 other trekkers joining the rocker to head up to ABC, which sits at an altitude of 4,130 metres above sea level.
