Composer Ooi Eow Jin's wife shocked when he is thought dead

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Elaine Khaw was stunned when some had thought her husband, veteran composer Datuk Ooi Eow Jin had died following the news of her selling kuih kapit to pay for his treatments.

She said that even though his health had deteriorated since last year and left him bed-ridden, his condition isn't distressing.

"I get many calls from people asking about him and wanting confirmation after hearing that he had passed away," said Khaw, 78, according to recent news reports.

She added that Ooi, 80, who was suffering from Azheimer, was last admitted to the hospital in June last year. It was then when the news him passing away had first spread.

"I'd like to clarify that he's ill but he's still very much alive. His health is always monitored and he still goes for regular hospital check-ups."

Khaw made the news on Thursday last week when she was reported to be selling kuih kapit to support Ooi's treatments as well as their son Chin Seng's, who is suffering from brain tumour.

She herself was also diagnosed with depression which required regular visits to a specialist and medication as well.

With such inconsistent health, Khaw had to resort to hiring part-time help in order to take care of her loved ones.

Those who wish to assist Khaw with funds can bank their donations into the Maybank Account 1626 8302 3797 (Khaw Lean Kee).

The public can also purchase her kuih kapit, worth RM20 per pack, by calling 018-234 5133. The treats can be collected from 20, Jalan SS23/35, Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya.
