#Showbiz: I spy no Hawkeye, Avengers member MIA in Infinity Wars?

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming epic superhero team movie, Avengers: Infinity War, promises to blow the collective minds of fans of the longstanding and highly-successful Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.

Considered the biggest Marvel movie to date, it will apparently feature over 20 superheroes both new and old in action on the big screen.

In a recent Press conference at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, the movie’s co-director Joe Russo said that the creative team had spent a great amount of time in crafting the story in order to enable each and every character to shine.

“Logistically, this was the most complicated movie to put together in history. We worked really hard to be fair. We didn’t want Iron Man, Black Widow or Hulk to overshadow these new members of the Avengers. We made sure their presence was relevant to the war taking place in the movie,” he said in a news report.

Also present at the event were actors Robert Downey Jr who plays Iron Man, Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Karen Gillan (Nebula) and executive producer Trinh Tran.

From the official poster of Avengers: Infinity War, which features the various superheroes in the movie, fans of Hawkeye had noticed his glaring absence in it. It didn’t help that the character was also absent in the official movie trailers.

This got fans questioning whether the heroic archer played by Jeremy Renner would be returning or had been benched.

When asked on the matter, Russo said: “We did not forget the twice-Oscar-nominated Renner. We have a really interesting story cooked up for Hawkeye, so I would say, patience is a virtue. We did not forget Hawkeye,” he said.

Avengers: Infinity War is the sequel to Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015). The movie focusses on the war between the Avengers and the supervillain Thanos and the heroic group’s efforts to prevent the purple-coloured fiend from collecting all of the powerful Infinity Stones.

The event in Singapore was organised to promote the Avengers Infinity War movie, which opens in cinemas nationwide on April 25.
