#Showbiz: Miley Cyrus goes dark online, deletes all Instagram entries

KUALA LUMPUR: American singer-songwriter and actress Miley Cyrus recently deleted all of her posts on her Instagram account which has over 76.2 million followers.

Naturally, her fans freaked out after realising that the 25-year-old artiste had thrashed hundreds of her entries online, which included photos with hunky fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

Those that initially assumed that there was “trouble in paradise” for Cyrus and her 28-year-old Aussie actor beau were relieved to discover that her photos were still present in strong numbers on his Instagram account.

Although her tweets were still visible on her Twitter account, its header area and her profile photo had been completely blackened out in a similar fashion to her official website.

Fans were speculating online about the various reasons behind her decision to fully go dark online, which also included a surprise wedding.

But the most plausible answer to the mystery was that the Wrecking Ball and Party In The USA hitmaker had used this as a gimmick to signal an upcoming project.

After all, the blackout concept had been utilised by fellow singer-songwriter Taylor Swift as a herald for the release of her first single from the album Reputation last year.

Canadian singer The Weeknd had also done the same back in 2016 prior to releasing new material.

More recently, actress Blake Lively had followed suit by purging her Instagram account in May, which was later revealed to be a PR stunt to publicise her new movie, A Simple Favor.

According to Glamour, producers linked to Cyrus’ new music, such as Miike WiLL Made It, Oren Yoel and Andrew Wyatt, have all blacked out their headers on Twitter as well.

The singer, whose net worth was estimated at US$200 million last year, had indicated that she was already working on new tunes even before the release of her latest studio album, Younger Now, in 2017.

Us Weekly had also reported that Cyrus was working on fresh songs with Mark Ronson at the same New York City studio where Lady Gaga records.

Rumours that the two stars may be working on songs together had been brewing as well.

Looks like we just have to patiently wait and see what the fuss is all about.
