#Showbiz: No Brunei screening for local horror movie Tujuh

KUALA LUMPUR: New horror thriller Tujuh, which is set to open in cinemas nationwide on Nov 8, has not been given the green light to be screened in Brunei.

According to a news report yesterday, Raja Mukhriz Raja Ahmed Kamaruddin, who had directed the Primeworks Studios-produced movie, said that the film censorship authority in the neighbouring country had done so on the grounds that it contained elements of immorality.

“As a movie that features the ‘Woodstock’ and ‘Hippie’ culture, it would certainly have scenes involving substance and drug abuse. Because of this, the movie wasn’t approved for screening over there.

“Whatever the case, I accept and respect the decision of the authorities there,” he said of the movie, which is set during the 1970s.

When asked if they would appeal for the decision to be turned around, Raja Mukhriz said that he would leave that to the discretion of the producers.

Meanwhile, Tujuh which features plenty of gory scenes was not spared of snips by the local film censorship board or LPF.

“About 13 scenes were cut. It did throw the flow of the movie off by just a very narrow margin but it hasn’t affected the storyline at all,” said Raja Mukhriz.

Tujuh features an ensemble cast that includes Johan As’ari, Pekin Ibrahim, Aeril Zafrel, Siti Saleha, Cristina Suzanne and Marsha Milan.
