#Showbiz: Siti Sarah hopes for ticket to AJL with 'Semakin'

KUALA LUMPUR: First-time semi-finalist Siti Sarah Raisuddin may have booked herself a place in Anugerah Juara Lagu 33 (AJL33) early next year for a “job well done”.

Yesterday, in the first of three semi-final concerts of TV3 chart show Muzik-Muzik 33 (MM33), she stole the show crooning her new single Semakin and it was proclaimed the showcase’s Best Song.

The song written and composed by her husband, actor-comedian Shuib Mohamad of Sepahtu under his pen name Mera Utama, impressed chief judge Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, and her performance also received a standing ovation from audiences at Sri Pentas 2, Plaza Alam Sentral in Shah Alam.

“This is fantastic! I’m over the moon that I’ve made it,” said an elated Siti Sarah in a news report today.

“I’ve just entered Muzik-Muzik’s semi-finals — a career milestone — and now I may just get a shot in Anugerah Juara Lagu.”

Siti Sarah, 34, added that the song was her husband’s labour of love, and she had dedicated it to her family.

“Competition was really stiff, any of the 11 songs could have won. I guess I’ve put in a lot of hard work and extra effort, and this has paid off.”

The 12 songs which will qualify for AJL33 will be entirely decided by Mokhzani and fellow judges, and they would only be known after the third semi-final concert on Nov 23.

“Anything can happen, but I'm optimistic about making it.”

Besides Semakin, the other songs performed during the 9pm showcase were Di Matamu by Sufian Suhaimi, Dia (Qody), Kata Akhirmu (Ariff Bahran), Sesungguhnya Aku (Aliff Satar), Bercanda Di Malam Indah (Kugiran Masdo), Mimpi (Liza Hanim), Seindah Berdua (Dewi Liana Seriestha), Dia (Dayang Nurfaizah), Tak Pernah Hilang (Amylea Azizan and Kaer Azami) and Hikayat Ben Ladin (Ben Ladin).

Another 11 songs will be showcased during the second weekly concert on Nov 16 and another eight on Nov 23.

All of the concerts are broadcast live on TV3 and are co-hosted by Haziq of Hot FM and Sherry Al-Hadad.
