#Showbiz: 'As unmanly as I am, at least I've done Malaysia proud' — Chef Wan

KUALA LUMPUR: Having been called ‘pondan’ since young, popular celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail a.k.a. Chef Wan admits he is immuned to such derogatory name-calling.

In a recent posting on his Instagram, the 61-year-old said people were still calling him a pondan despite him having married with kids, and now with grandchildren.

Even though he is ridiculed, Chef Wan takes pride for helping to put Malaysia on the world map.

“Some people are so busy putting me down and calling me names like old pondan. I’ve been called ‘pondan’ since I was a kid right up till now. So I’m getting some help from my personal instructor to help toughen me up physically.

“As unmanly as I am, at least I’ve done the country proud, take good care of my family and be an active member of the society some of which these naysayers cannot even achieve,” he wrote.

Chef Wan said such people should be ashamed of themselves and work at being better individuals.
