#Showbiz: After Indonesia, Bront Palarae eyes the Philippines

KUALA LUMPUR: Always trying to find something new to feed his creativity, popular actor Bront Palarae is now trying his luck starring in a Manila-based film production.

“I’ve just wrapped up filming a horror film titled Motel Acacia, a film directed by Bradley Liew. Although the production house is based in the Philippines, it is considered a regional project since the cast comprises actors from various countries,” he said.

Besides Bront, others in the cast are Indonesian heartthrob Nicholas Saputra, J.C. Santos and Agot Isidro from the Philippines, Belgian Jan Bijvoet, Thailand’s Vithaya Pansringam and Australian Talia Zucker.

Besides Manila, the film which slated to hit cinemas later this year, was shot in Slovenia, shared Bront when met at the launch of the upcoming 3rd Malaysia International Film Festival and Malaysia Golden Global Awards, at Dorsett Hartamas Kuala Lumpur here yesterday.

The 40-year-old artiste is also one of the ambassadors for the July film festival.

Bront who has previously starred in a string of Indonesian movies including My Stupid Boss, Pengabdi Setan and Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2, said that this would be his second time starring in a Manila-based production, after Daddy’s Home, a psychological thriller also directed by Malaysia-born Liew two years ago.

“Before my fellow Indonesian actors get uncomfortable with me getting many jobs there, I’d better look for work elsewhere too,” he joked when asked why the Philippines.

Bront has finished filming another Indonesian film, directed by Joko Anwar. Titled Gundala, it is a superhero film which he plays the main villain.
