#Showbiz: Game Of Thrones final season trailer clocks over 18mil views

KUALA LUMPUR: The end is nigh as Game Of Thrones comes to a dramatic conclusion with its eighth and final season next month.

The uber popular fantasy drama series will premiere in Asia at the same time with the US on April 15 at 9am on HBO.

Although “winter is coming”, fans will have to wait with bated breath to find out how all the different storylines tie together and conclude, as well as how the big ensemble of characters will fare when the dust has settled.

In the meantime, a trailer released yesterday by HBO has already sparked frenzied interest and stoked the imagination of fans worldwide.

The two-minute clip has garnered more than 18 million views and received over 554,000 likes so far in a short period of time.

In the trailer, dragons are seen swooping in and armies being assembled in an obvious grand tease for the epic Battle of Winterfell.

The clip also sees the young heroic character, Arya Stark, muttering: “I look forward to seeing this one.”

Fans are already speculating on what will happen in the final season which chronicles an epic struggle for power in the vast and violent kingdom spanning from Westeros to Essos.

Directors for the new season are David Nutter who won an Emmy in 2015 for his work on the thrilling Season 5 finale Mother’s Mercy, David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Miguel Sapochnik, with writing by Benioff, Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.

Members of the ensemble cast include Emmy and Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Liam Cunningham, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Alfie Allen, Nathalie Emmanuel and Gwendoline Christie.

Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin, the TV series which began in 2011 has since garnered a whopping 47 Primetime Emmy awards, which include Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016 and 2018, more than any other primetime scripted TV series.

Fans who want to prepare themselves in the lead-up to the six-episode final season can currently watch all past seasons of Game Of Thrones every day on HBO.

Catch Game Of Thrones: Season 8 on April 15 onwards at 9am, with a same day encore at 10pm on HBO. New episodes will premiere every Monday at the same time.
