#Showbiz: KL Jamm gives promising start with energetic live shows

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 5,000 folks attended the Re-Jamm concert featuring three singers who were part of the 1992 Ikhlas Tapi Jauh iconic concert.

Fans were taken on a trip down memory lane with Datuk Sheila Majid, Datuk Zainalabidin and Datuk Afdlin Shauki in an Ikhlas Tapi Jauh reunion-of-sorts show.

The Ikhlas Tapi Jauh concert was held at Stadium Merdeka on Dec 25, 1992 under Roslan Aziz Productions (R.A.P.).

Performing the iconic Ikhlas Tapi Jauh song last night, the three managed to invoke a deep sense of nostalgia with fans standing up and singing along to the tune written by Amir Yussof and Mukhlis Mohamed Nor.

While the 1992 concert version featured other names such as the late Zubir Ali, Amir Yusof and Azman Warren, the three of them carried the evergreen number well, to the fans’ delight.

Also present in the audience were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her husband, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Zainalabidin even took some time to engage with Dr Wan Azizah, asking her to follow Sheila’s vocalising of a few notes.

In good spirits, Dr Wan Azizah, when handed the microphone, said, “Astaghfirullahalazim.”

This was well received by the crowd who cheered her quick-witted response.

Anwar was also asked to join and repeat after the Hijau singer to sing several notes which he obliged.

There was not a dull moment at Stage 1 of the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) last night and the concert felt more like a sing-along session as the trio performed their big hits apart from several songs from the Ikhlas Tapi Jauh album.

Called Re-Jamm, the concert is part of the three-day KL Jamm music festival which kicked off yesterday with forums on the music industry.

The festival, aimed at providing a platform where artistes and fans can enjoy the energy of live music, also witnessed Malaysian Tamil stars offering high-powered performances at Stage 2.

Among those in the Malaysia Pasangge Jamm were Santesh, Rabbit, Sheezay, Psychomantra, Craankstar and MG Vijai.

KL Jamm continues today with performances by Zamani (Slam), NCT Dream, OAG and Ramli Sarip, among others.

Tomorrow, Kartel will take to the stage in the late afternoon, followed by Ruff-Jam featuring Ruffedge, Pot and Sam of Innuendo and Billy Zulkarnain at Stage 1 and Bunkface at Stage 2.
