#Showbiz: Theatre adaptation for popular 'Nur' on the way?

KUALA LUMPUR: Nur fans take note. The popular, award-winning drama may just be on its way to Istana Budaya soon.

Revealing the good news, its director Shahrulezad Mohameddin said: “We, the cast and crew of Nur, are thankful to Istana Budaya for their great suggestion.

“At the moment we haven’t made any plans, nor have we signed any agreement with Istana Budaya for a theatre adaptation of Nur.

“But I’m delighted and hopeful that this becomes a reality.

“Nur is a story that resonates with many Malaysians and turning it into a play will give it a boost by attracting more fans,” he said in a news report yesterday.

Shahrulezad also said he hoped the main cast of Nur would reprise their roles for the play, which Istana Budaya has scheduled for September.

“Honestly, I feel that’s a bit too soon but we’ll all try our best. I’ll check the main actors’ and actresses’ schedules to see if we all can make it,” he added.

Nur, which stars Amyra Rosli and Syafiq Kyle, is the story of a religious teacher who guides a repentant prostitute back to the righteous path.

Screened on TV3 last year, it was followed by a sequel Nur 2, aired last month.

Nur won big at the DFKL Awards 2019, and took home Choice Drama, Choice Director for Shahrulezad, Choice Actor for Syafiq, Choice Couple for Syafiq and Amyra and Choice Antagonist for Azhan Rani.
