#Showbiz: BTS beats Taylor Swift and U2 for highest-grossing show ever at LA's Rose Bowl

KUALA LUMPUR: BTS is still in the midst of its world stadium tour but the international K-Pop sensation has already gained much success from it.

According to Soompi, the seven-member music group had performed on May 4 and 5 at the famous Rose Bowl in Los Angeles as part of its Love Yourself:Speak Yourself stadium tour.

Apparently, the two shows were reported to have raked in a cool USD16.6 million (RM69.3 million) via the sale of 113,040 tickets.

This makes BTS’ concert the highest-grossing event ever at the Rose Bowl, which has broken previous records held by the likes of Taylor Swift and U2.

Aside from that, Billboard reported that the South Korean music outfit's US stops during the tour had earned the group about USD44 million (RM183.7 million) after selling 299,770 tickets.

BTS' concerts in San Paolo, London and Paris had accumulated an additional USD35 million (RM146.1) as well.

This brings the group's total earnings for its Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour to a whopping USD79 million (RM330 million) so far with 606,409 tickets sold.

That amount is sure to rise as the uber popular K-Pop band is set to perform in Osaka and Shizuoka, Japan in July.

Meanwhile, Soompi also reported that BTS had won the Global Phenom award at the 2019 Ardys (formerly known as the Radio Disney Music Awards) yesterday in Los Angeles.

This marks the second time that the K-Pop group has won awards at the annual show. Last year saw BTS winning trophies for Best Duo/Group, Best Dance Track and Best Song That Makes You Smile. The group’s fans, dubbed Army, also won for Fiercest Fans.

A source from the music outfit’s agency, Big Hit Entertainment, explained that the Global Phenom award was apparently created and awarded for the first time this year, in order to commemorate BTS’ great influence in the global pop industry due to its music, fashion, dancing and more.
