#Showbiz: Jamal to name daughter after his most famous film

KUALA LUMPUR: Pop legend Datuk Jamal Abdillah has found a suitable name for his first daughter, who is due on Oct 5.

The 60-year-old crooner said that he and his wife Datin Zai Izzati Khiruddin, 25, would be naming their new baby Azura Yamani.

“That's our tribute to my hit film Azura, which brings me lots of fond memories. Fans remember Azura all these years, from the dialogue to the songs especially Sandarkan Pada Kenangan," said Jamal.

“Best of all, some fans even scream out 'Azura' when they meet me in the streets. The title track of the movie is also a crowd favourite in all of my concerts,” he said in a news report yesterday.

Jamal said Zai was now resting at home, and was in good spirits. "She's got a craving for lemang and rendang, and fortunately, it's easy to purchase or make these dishes."

The singer admitted that he was a little nervous waiting for Azura's birth. "I've always had a fear of watching my child's birth, so I've told my wife that I would not be at her side in the maternity ward when baby arrives."

Zai has suffered from three miscarriages since her marriage to Jamal on April 1, 2017.

Jamal was previously married to Basariah Abdul Latiff, Noraina Mohd Yusof and Fatimatuzahrah Samad. Each marriage ended in divorce.

He has two sons Osama Yamani, 18, and Ahmad Zaki Yamani, 13.

Azura, screened in 1984, is directed by Deddy M. Borhan. It sees Jamal play a spoilt, rich teenager Zack who falls in love with a beautiful and compassionate college student, Azura (Fauziah Ahmad Daud), despite his father Datuk Puteh's (A Galak) objections.

Azura gradually changed Zack for the better, and helped him reconcile with his strict father.

Jamal and Fauziah even sang a duet Sandarkan Pada Kenangan in the film, and he re-recorded it in 2003 with Siti Sarah Raissuddin.
