#Showbiz: Henry Golding goes gangster in Guy Ritchie's upcoming 'The Gentlemen'

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular actor of the moment Henry Golding will be showing moviegoers a darker side of himself in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film, The Gentlemen, out on Jan 24.

According to news reports, the cheery 32-year-old Malaysian-British Crazy Rich Asians star plays a Vietnamese gangster in the crime comedy by Ritchie, who is known for entertaining mobster movies such as Snatch; and Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels.

The hunky actor, known for his debonair roles in romance comedies, said that he was up to the challenge of portraying a different type of character and that the movie would be worth the watch.

With a screenplay co-written by Ritchie, the film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and Matthew McConaughey.

It tells the story of a British drug lord who tries to sell off his highly-profitable empire to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.

The Sarawak-born actor has said that the dialogue is great and that the movie will be in the same vein as Ritchie’s previous flamboyant crime outings.

During a previous video chat with Collider.com, Golding said: “(This) is the magic of Guy Ritchie, he has these amazing one-liners that he is super famous for, which in that collaborative process, you actually create with him. Some of these lines we come up with are absolutely amazing. Traditionally, Guy Ritchie.”

Aside from The Gentlemen, 2020 will also see Golding taking on the titular role in the G.I. Joe spin-off movie, Snake Eyes, alongside Indonesian action star Iko Uwais.

Meanwhile, fans of the actor can look forward to seeing him romancing Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke onscreen soon in Last Christmas.

The romance comedy, which also stars Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, will premiere in cinemas nationwide on Nov 28.
