#Showbiz: 'It's almost 2020, but TV drama budget is still a joke' – Tony Eusoff

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite having been an actor for the past 15 years, multi-talented artiste Tony Eusoff was not spared from being offered “peanuts” from a production house.

Disappointed with an acting offer he received recently, the 42-year-old actor took to Twitter yesterday to share a screenshot of the WhatsApp messages between him and the individual offering the job. The caption accompanying the post read: “Dah nak 2020 dah tapi bajet drama tv masih puaka” (It’s almost 2020, but TV drama budget is still a joke.)

In the Whatsapp conversation, the person quoted a fee which was presumably a very low amount for work comprising 11 scenes over two days.

This prompted the Sarawak-born artiste to reply sarcastically with: “Hahaha tu bajet zaman Sultan Melaka ke apa?”

His posting received a string of comments from his fans and followers who mostly expressed their support towards him.

One commented: “If Tony Eusoff is treated like that, imagine how much worse it is for new talents. Maybe the payment is enough to cover LRT fare and economy rice.” Another commented: “In the end, they (TV stations and drama producers) could only hire ‘wooden’ actors with such low remuneration package.”
