#Showbiz: 4 artistes chided for holidaying despite pandemic

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular actor Alvin Chong and actresses Liyana Jasmay, Farah Nabilah and Aishah Azman have just got back from their holidays and are currently under self-quarantine.

However, Netizens have slammed them for "enjoying themselves overseas" over the last week, despite the surge in Covid-19 cases around the world.

Chong, 29, was on holiday in New York, the United States while Liyana, 31, was in Victoria, Australia.

Newly-married Farah, 28, was on holiday with her husband Amirul Yunus in the Maldives while Aishah, 23, was in Cappadocia, Turkey.

All of them returned home on Tuesday.

One Netizen identified as Harun criticised Liyana in response to a recent photo of her walking along a beach in Australia which she uploaded on Instagram.

"You artistes are so selfish, exposing yourselves to danger. Please don't come back," he said.

Another Netizen, Siti, slammed Farah in response to a photo of her and Amirul strolling beside the green-blue sea in Hurawalhi, the Maldives.

"What is wrong with you celebrities? Holidaying at a time when we all must stay safe. You're not being good role models to fans," said Siti.

Aishah was criticised by a Netizen identified as Zain.

In response to an Instagram photo of her sitting on a bench in Cappadocia, he said: "Stay out of the country. You put all of us back home at risk!"

However, Netizens began to soften their feedback when the four artistes subsequently uploaded photos of themselves on their flights home, wearing masks and using hand sanitisers.

Yesterday, Liyana posted a photo of herself on an AirAsia flight home with the caption: "We were supposed to fly home on March 23 but we arrived home on March 18. Self-quarantine for 14 days. Thank you doctors and frontliners. Don't forget to wash hands everyone!"

Chong posted a photo of himself with a face mask with the caption: "Just want to remind all not to panic, don't stockpile, and buy only what you need. Reduce outdoor activities and don't balik kampung. We can get through this!"

Farah posted a photo of her hand sanitisers with the caption: "I'm home and self-isolating. Pray hard and practise good hygiene. Take care, may God protect us."
