#Showbiz: Fipper offers explanation over Neelofa's maligned 'Muslim-friendly' sandals

KUALA LUMPUR: After receiving severe brickbats for using the controversial "Muslim-friendly" claim for new sandals by celebrity entrepreneur Neelofa and Fipper, the local footwear brand has offered an explanation that the collaborative product was socks-friendly.

In a brief statement posted on social media yesterday, the company said: "The Fipper x TheNoor slip-ons are suitable for Muslim women who wear socks, as our previous products did not really fit with a 'muslimah' image."

It added: "We at Fipper would like to apologise for any confusion caused by this."

The newly-launched sandals by Fipper and Neelofa quickly went viral after it was claimed to be a Muslim-friendly product.

Many Netizens threw shade at the successful businesswoman, whose full name is Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, and accused her of religious exploitation.

Others made fun at the absurdity of the claim for the new footwear which costs RM79.90 a pair.

The Naelofar founder was recently involved in another controversy after her wedding last month to PU Riz had allegedly breached the strict set of SOP by the authorities.

Aside from that, the police are also investigating the celebrity couple after photos of them participating in leisurely activities in Langkawi last week started trending online.

Neelofa had claimed that the couple were on a business trip linked to the opening of Chatime branches there instead of enjoying their honeymoon as was speculated by angry Netizens.
