#Showbiz: Lockdown in NZ was joy for Benedict Cumberbatch

KUALA LUMPUR: British actor Benedict Cumberbatch of Dr Strange fame, loved being in lockdown in New Zealand.

AsiaOne reported today that Cumberbatch, 45, a father of three sons aged between three and six, spent the lockdown period in New Zealand with them and his wife Sophie Hunter, as he was involved in the filming of Netflix Western drama The Power Of The Dog last year.

He said: "I loved the lockdown. I was with my wife and children and my parents had come over to have a three-week experience with us. And then they stayed for five months!

"We were so lucky. Far away from home, but we found a new one."

Cumberbatch played ranch owner Phil Burbank in the film which was based on the 1967 novel by Thomas Savage.

Spider-Man star Kirsten Dunst played his alcoholic sister-in-law Rose.

"I'm a people-pleaser. Phil is neither, so I had to breathe into it and not worry about what people thought.

"The minute he meets his sister-in-law Rose, he throws these psychological tremors at her that push her to drink.

"So it was actually helpful for the both of us not to have much contact and observe strict social distancing," he said.
