#Showbiz: Coachella guests need not be vaccinated, masked or Covid-negative

KUALA LUMPUR: Coachella, a major global music festival, will not require ticket-holders to be vaccinated, wear masks or test negative for Covid-19 this year.

Sky News reported yesterday that the eased restrictions for Coachella conform with United States government guidance but could "change accordingly".

Coachella, held in the southern Californian desert, will be held on two consecutive weekends — April 15 to 17 and April 22 to 24.

A statement on the festival's website said that even though guests need not wear masks, they are advised to do so as a preventive measure against desert dust.

"In accordance with local guidelines, there will be no vaccination, testing or masking requirements at Coachella 2022.

"However, the event shall be presented in accordance with applicable public health conditions as of the date of the event and which may change at any time as determined by federal, state or local government agencies.

"Such requirements may include, without limitation, changes to capacity, attendance procedures and entry requirements, such as proof of vaccination and/or negative Covid-19 tests, and other protective measures such as requiring attendees to wear face coverings."

The statement added that anyone who did not comply with the rules would be refunded and denied entry.

British singer Harry Styles will headline both Fridays of the event, while Billie Eilish, who recently scored an Oscar nomination for her James Bond theme No Time To Die, will perform the main slot on Saturdays. Kanye West or Ye will be performing on Sunday nights.
