#Showbiz: Finas says 'no' to overboard scenes in dramas - Md Nasir

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation (Finas) does not approve "overboard" scenes in local dramas, as well as those uploaded on social media.

Its chief executive officer Prof Dr Md Nasir Ibrahim said that such scenes were insensitive towards Malaysian cultural norms and were downright impolite.

"Such scenes should not be made or distributed. Finas is very concerned about this," he said in a news report today.

Md Nasir added that while Finas did not have the authority to censor film and television content, the corporation would take appropriate action against all parties involved in the production and distribution of such content under the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation Licensing Regulations (1983).

"Finas can cancel the licences of offenders, if they are found to be involved in immoral activities that jeopardise public interest," he said, urging all members of the creative industry to be mindful of Malaysians' sensitivities when it came to producing films and television programes.

Last weekend, actor Zul Ariffin uploaded on his Instagram account a controversial video clip from his yet-to-be-screened drama series Perempuan Itu, which showed him and his co-star Siti Hariesa in steamy scenes.

Zul, 35, subsequently apologised for uploading the video which was roundly criticised by Netizens, as well as Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who deemed it "unsuitable for public viewing".

Annuar also said that Zul will be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 for uploading the video.
