KUALA LUMPUR: Local entertainment streaming app sooka's next original drama series is horror comedy Hantu Raya Pergi Perang which is now available online.
Helmed by the award-winning directors of Keluarga Iskandar, Wan Hasliza and Wan Alak, the series follows the story of a local village community that holds on strongly to tales of Malaysian ghosts and folklore legends.
Produced in collaboration with local production house, KL Motion, Hantu Raya Pergi Perang is a premium content exclusive to sooka, with one free episode available for streaming beginning today.
The series which runs for eight episodes features Hun Haqeem, Sharifah Sakinah, Rashidi Ishak, Syean Mokhtar and Iman Corinne in leading roles.
sooka launched the new original series yesterday at an event in RexKL here, in conjunction with its first anniversary "sooka Dah Besar Sekarang" celebrations.
The streaming app also presented its expansion onto Smart TVs with the announcement of the sooka VIP TV plan.
In a statement today, sooka's head of programming Emarina Kamal, said: "One year onward from our launch in Malaysia, our expansion onto the big screen could not have come at a better time, as more local content is produced and sports events are available for viewers to enjoy on their preferred screens."
"Today, we have about 71 per cent of mobile users enjoying our content on mobile devices. With sooka VIP TV, we want to further reach a wider audience who enjoy streaming their favourite content on Smart TVs.
"Users now have the option and convenience to choose how and where they want to consume content, be it on their mobile devices at anytime, anywhere, or via the big screen in the comfort of their homes," she said.
Emarina added: "Our one-year milestone has elevated us from an entertainment streaming app that allows subscribers to stream on-the-go, to now streaming on the big screen — and this is attributed to our subscribers, partners, local content providers and creators."
"Since our inception, we have registered 1.5 million downloads of our app, streamed a total of 556 million minutes' worth of entertainment and sports content, and launched two Original series, including the one we are premiering today which is Hantu Raya Pergi Perang," she said.
