#Showbiz: Certain cinemas 'sabotaging' Anwar biopic, claims distributor

KUALA LUMPUR: DMY Creation, the distributor of the biopic Anwar: The Untold Story, has claimed that certain cinemas were "boycotting" its screening.

Its chairman Datuk Mohamed Yusoff said the film about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's struggle against corruption might have collected a whopping RM1 million on its opening day, but many cinema-goers have been left disappointed.

"These cinemas have refused to give slots to the Anwar movie, yet they have given more than 40 slots to foreign films," he said in an interview with Berita Harian Online yesterday.

Mohamed urged the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to monitor the screenings of local films to ensure that cinemas gave equal treatment to both foreign and local films.

Anwar: The Untold Story is directed by Viva Westi and opened in 124 cinemas nationwide last Thursday.
