KUALA LUMPUR: Syafiq Yusof, the popular director behind box office hits such as Saya Amat Mencintaimu, the Abang Long Fadil trilogy and Desolasi, is set to release his second serious police action film in mid-2024.
Titled Syerif, it boasts a star-studded cast headlined by Zul Ariffin who plays the titular character and Datuk Aaron Aziz who plays the villain Tony.
"It's going to be a lot more action-packed and thought-provoking than my first movie in this genre — KL Special Force which was screened in 2018," said Syafiq on location at Bandar Malaysia in Sungai Besi here yesterday.
Syafiq added that the film was his father Datuk Yusof Haslam's idea and he also served as its executive producer alongside Raja Jastina Raja Arshad.
"We're going to wrap up filming in a week's time. Filming began in February and will take 85 days."
Syerif, which is jointly produced by Skop Productions and Astro Shaw also stars Syafiq Kyle, Azira Syafinaz, Elizabeth Tan, Shaharudin Tamby, Kodi Rasheed, Esma Daniel, Hazama Azmi and Azri Iskandar.
It tells the story of Narcotics Department police officer Nazri (Syafiq Kyle) who goes all out to bust a methamphetamine drug syndicate led by Tony (Aaron).
He teams up with Syerif (Zul), an officer from the Integrity Department who has been assigned by the Inspector-General of Police.
Both police officers soon discover that a deadly henchman of Tony might be hiding among the ranks of the Narcotics Department itself.
