KUALA LUMPUR: Winning the Creator Of The Year category was near impossible for Ceddy Ang as he was up against "super stiff competition" from the eventual winner Khairul Aming.
Nevertheless the 35-year-old Penangite has become one of the "trending" Malaysians two days after the inaugural TikTok Awards MY 2023 which took place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Jalan Duta here.
Ang was hailed by netizens for his rapid-fire wit, creative scarlet suit combined with multi-coloured frills, and most of all superb chemistry with singer-songwriter Sissy Imann when they co-hosted the half-hour red carpet segment at 8.30pm before the awards show.
Thanking netizens for their support, the host, actor, singer, entrepreneur and food reviewer said in an Instagram post yesterday that he "slayed" every moment of the awards show.
"Some people loved my outfit and some hated it but all I know is I 'slayed' every moment of it!" wrote Ang in his caption to a photo of himself with Sissy.
"I was nominated Creator Of The Year alongside many other talented content creators and even though my chance of winning was near impossible I got to host the Red Carpet event alongside singer-songwriter Sissy Imann.
"She is super sweet, friendly and humble and we had great chemistry as co-hosts. Who knows we might work together again in future."
Ang thanked the awards' organisers TikTok Malaysia and Media Prima for "giving him his first major hosting job".
He also thanked his fashion designers and makeup artists Joey, Sabby, Zulvanny and Pinky Chia for making him look awesome in the awards.
Ang, a former marketing manager, has been a social media influencer for five years.
The "lifestyle vlogger" has since 2021 also managed a food vlog on TikTok.
In 2020 he released a single titled Pwrful and early this year he appeared in the reality talent show Big Stage during its fourth week, reading Netizens' comments on the contestants' weekly performances.
Sometimes likened to comedian and television host Azwan Ali and director Michael Ang who are also known for their outspokenness and flamboyance, Ang will soon appear in an Astro drama series One Million Dollar Voice.
