#Showbiz: Mosque where Shamsul Yusof, Ira Kazar tied the knot draws interest of M'sian tourists

KUALA LUMPUR: The marriage of film director Syamsul Yusof and starlet Ira Kazar in Southern Thailand took the local entertainment industry by storm earlier this year.

However, no one would have guessed that the Songkhla Central Mosque, where the couple held their wedding ceremony, has become one of the attractions among Malaysian visitors to the province.

In a Harian Metro report yesterday, a tour guide from Malaysia who identified himself as Saiful said that the celebrity couple has become one of the selling points for tour guides leading tourists from Malaysia.

"The mosque has long been popular for Malaysian couples who wanted to solemnise their marriage across the border.

"Besides, its beautiful design and landscape lend the mosque a look that is akin to the famed Taj Mahal," shared Saiful, who added that marriages solemnised there are recognised by our authority.

"But the much-talked-about marriage of the celebrity couple has since boosted the mosque's popularity among tourists from Malaysia."
