#Showbiz: 'Better to hold group prayers for Palestine rather than solidarity campaigns' says Mona Allen

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Mona Allen, 38, believes that it is better for Malaysians to conduct solat hajat or group prayers for the well-being of the Palestinians instead of solidarity gatherings.

In an Instagram Story yesterday, Mona said that gatherings such as the Free Palestine campaign held at Dataran Merdeka last Sunday were a "waste of time".

"Sorry, I don't think gathering in public places and having Palestine solidarity showcases is necessary. It doesn't feel right to me," said Mona.

"No matter how many gatherings we have, things remain the same."

She added that some of these gatherings were merely political tactics by well-known personalities to gain political support.

"It is a lot better to have solat hajat, and also to boycott companies that actively help Israel and whose products are not necessary."

Thousands of Malaysians gathered to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people and call for an end to the armed strikes by Israeli forces in a peaceful rally at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday.

The rally themed Freedom for Palestine was organised by non-governmental organisations Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM) and Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare).
