#Showbiz: No sequel to 'Abang Adik', says director

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite having made history as Malaysia's first movie to break a record at Taiwan's box office with a collection of more than RM13.5 million, its director Jin Ong says there's no intention of making a sequel to 'Abang Adik.'

In a recent news report, Ong was quoted as saying this simply was because the production wanted to maintain the originality and uniqueness of the story.

However, Ong said he wanted to focus on other things, including the possibility of entering 'Abang Adik' at film awards, both locally and internationally, including the Oscars.

"Let's see if we could participate, as there are many rules for participation at the Academy Awards show.

"Some say that we should have submitted the application by November, but 'Abang Adik' was only screened last month," Ong explained.

He added that he was looking forward to participate in the next Malaysia Film Festival (FFM) for the movie.

At FFM29, Ong had been awarded with the Special Jury Award for the movie 'Shuttle Life', which he produced in 2017.
