#Showbiz: DJ Dave donates RM10,000 cash prize to five religious organisations

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer Datuk DJ Dave has contributed the RM10,000 cash prize accompanying the Special Unity Award by the Rotary Club Ara Damansara (RCAD) to support five religious organisations.

In a news report today, the 76-year-old artiste has divided an equal amount of RM2,000 to Surau An-Nur in Bandar Menjalara, Kuala Lumpur; Canossa Convent Welfare Centre in Jinjang Utara, Kuala Lumpur; Choong Wan Koong Temple in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur; Persatuan Pengurusan Kuil Subramania Swami in Shah Alam, Selangor; and Gurdwara Sahib in Selayang, Selangor.

Dave, whose Muslim name is Irwan Shah Abdullah, received the award and cash prize for his contribution to the patriotic song 'Setia Perpaduan' project, which was inspired by the former 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, last year.

The report quoted Dave as saying that the award was unexpected but hoped it would inspire other Malaysians to continue living harmoniously in this multicultural country.

"As a concerned Malaysian and to show my stand for unity, I'm giving back this money to these organisations, which represent the various religious communities of this country," he said.

For his generous gesture, Dave was later rewarded with a health package worth RM20,888 by RENN Asia Wellness at the recent RCAD dinner.
