#Showbiz: 'La Luna' is a lighthearted comedy with no agenda - Namron

KUALA LUMPUR: The romantic comedy film La Luna which premiered last year was meant to be a light-hearted story, said actor Namron yesterday.

Namron or Shahili Abdan played a "lovestruck" villager named Ayob in the film directed by M. Raihan Halim which recently made its debut on Netflix.

"It may be true that Ayob, who is getting estranged from his wife Enah, suddenly rekindles his love for her after she buys brand new women's wear from the film's titular boutique La Luna," said Namron at the launch of folk rock duo Satwo's maiden album Di Persembunyian at Muzium Negara.

"And they soon start to act like young lovers chasing each other around the house and hiding together in the bedroom."

Namron said that even though certain viewers deemed Ayob and Enah "liberal and promiscuous", they were meant to be comical characters instead of realistic ones.

"Over-the-top behaviour is part and parcel of comedies. We have had lots of characters like this in the past."

Namron also said that Ayob and Enah were not "x-rated" characters as the director merely wanted to show that they had fallen madly in love with each other because of La Luna products.

La Luna has been criticised by some viewers following its Netflix debut.

Another actor in the movie, Hisyam Hamid was criticised by netizens for playing an abusive husband.

Hisyam however defended his role and reasoned that his character Paat was not shown physically abusing his wife.

He also said that abusive husbands reflected the sad reality of modern society.

La Luna, which premiered in cinemas last Nov 9 tells the story of Hani, a young entrepreneur who returns to her grandparents' village in Kuala Kangsar, Perak and opens a women's boutique there.

The film also stars Sharifah Amani, Shaheizy Sam, Wan Hanafi Su, Farah Ahmad and Nadiya Nisaa.
