ACTOR Nazim Othman, 40, plans to "exit" the small screen once he lands his first major role in a film.
"I cannot reveal when it will happen, but once it does, I am ready to say goodbye to TV dramas for good," said Nazim in an interview recently.
He however denied that he was "fed up" with starring in television dramas.
"I've been a TV actor for more than a decade now, so I feel that it is time to come out of my comfort zone and move up to the next level, as a film actor."
Nazim also said that he had always wanted to star in films, but had yet to find a story that interested him.
"It does not matter how many films I'll star in. Even if it is one film, I will be very happy to be part of it," said Nazim, who has been acting since 2008.
Nazim, who has appeared in more than 50 telemovies and drama series, said that he had met several well-known film directors and expressed his interest in working with them.
"I've never appeared in any film throughout my 16 years in the industry. It's not that I've not been offered a film role, but I've not found the right role that suits me," he said.
Nazim said that even though he was no longer a "newbie" amongst actors, he did not feel threatened by the presence of his talented juniors.
"I actually welcome them. It is good to work with talented juniors, they help you better your acting and in the process they also learn from you. It is a win-win situation," he said.
Nazim does not mind being a "supporting actor" in most of his movies, since supporting actors "often steal the show" and make it memorable.
"As long as I am fit and strong, I will act in movies that I like. Acting is my passion."
When asked about his Ramadan plans, Nazim said that he will appear in the TV3 drama 'Wanita Syurga', which will run for 35 episodes beginning March 15.
In the series which also stars Redza Rosli, Siti Khadijah Halim, Riena Diana, Shah Iskandar, Marisa Yasmin, Amyza Aznan and Syazuwan Hassan, Nazim plays a syarie lawyer.
"It's back to being a good guy for me. Last year, I played many bad guys, some of whom were really 'dark'," he said.
"However, in order to prepare myself for this new and challenging role, I had to meet real syarie lawyers and observe how they worked. I hope my fans will like this new character."
Nazim will also appear in a Hari Raya Aidilfitri TV3 drama 'Raya Macam Dulu-Dulu' next month.
Nazim, a former air steward with Malaysia Airlines, is best known for the television dramas 'Frontpage', 'Awan Dania', 'Dejavu Di Kinabalu', 'Epilog Cinta Kirana', 'Monalisa', 'Akulah Balqis', 'Cindai', 'Terima Aku Seadanya' and 'Ratu Ten Pin'.
Born in Labuan with roots in Perlis, Nazim has also starred in the music video of 'Hujung Waktu', a song made popular by pop duo Azhael in 2014.
He participated in the Astro celebrity reality show 'Gempak Superstar' in 2016.
