KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran comedian, actor, singer, celebrity chef and television host Jaafar Onn died at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah in Serdang, Selangor at 11.30am today. He was 73.
The actor's death was announced by his adopted son Mohamad Hanif Hashim.
Hanif said that his father had been in the hospital since yesterday after suffering from internal bleeding.
He added that his condition soon became critical and his heart stopped early this morning.
Jaafar had earlier said that he had been suffering from a heart ailment which resulted in his legs getting swollen.
He also said that he had been confined to a wheelchair over the last six months, and had to undergo several procedures at the hospital.
Jaafar, who hails from Muar, Johor, began his acting career in the early 1970s, hosting a cookery show on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
He often appeared in television entertainment and variety shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
