#Showbiz: Awie to slow down career and spend more time with his children

KUALA LUMPUR: Rock legend Datuk Awie, 56, wants to slow down his singing and acting career to spend more quality time with his children.

Awie said in an interview with Harian Metro yesterday that he wanted to "pay back lost time" to his loved ones.

"When I first started singing I was in my teens. My band Wings is about 40 years old and I am now in my late 50s," said Awie.

"All these years I was very much into my entertainment career. As a result, I did not show up when my children had activities in school and college such as concerts," he said.

Awie and his wife Datin Sharifah Ladyana Syed Shamsuddin will be parents again as she is five months' pregnant.

They were married on Oct 7, 2017, and have a four-year-old son.

Awie has three children from his marriage to Rozana Misbun from June 20, 2005 to Nov 1, 2014.

They are Putra Ahmad Merrah, 19, Putra Ahmad Rezzki, 16, and Puteri Qasseh Antasha, 14.

Awie has two daughters Putri Aleeya Antasha, 24, and Putri Aleefa Antasha, 22 from his first marriage to singer Arni Nazira.

Awie was met at a buka puasa event organised by his companies Rumah Produksi Merah and Awie Entertainment at the Youth and Sports Ministry in Putrajaya recently.

He presented monetary contributions to veteran singer and actor Isma Aliff, the family of the late rock musician Yazit Ahmad of Search fame, and Sazali P. Ramlee the son of the late screen legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee.

Awie also announced that he will be having a concert titled Journey at the Star Theatre in Singapore on July 27 and the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Aug 3.
