#Showbiz: AR Rahman to entertain Malaysians once again on July 27 [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians, here is great news from the Mozart of Madras AR Rahman!

The world famous musical maestro and multiple award winning musician will be back in town on July 27 for yet another spellbinding musical spectacle, this time at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

AR Rahman Live In Kuala Lumpur 2024 which begins at 8pm is organised by Star Planet and promises fans of Rahman more than two hours of non-stop musical magic on the big stage.

The concert's organiser Star Planet managing director Datuk Alan Foo said that Rahman was very popular with Malaysians and it would always be great to have the icon of world music back in town.

"We are proud to welcome AR Rahman the Mozart of Madras back to KL and he will once again entertain us with his world class compositions complete with brilliant special effects and superb showmanship," said Foo at the launch of the concert at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur Hotel in KL Sentral today.

"Rahman's music transcends boundaries and unites people around the world. His music speaks to our hearts and Malaysians are honoured to have him back for yet another magical show."

Star Planet director Datuk R Rajendran said that Rahman will present his trade mark fusion of musical genres as well as stylish new compositions brought to life by a stellar ensemble of performers.

"Malaysians will have an immersive journey through his captivating works and fresh interpretations of beloved songs."

Rahman, 57, from Tamil Nadu, India is popular for his works in Indian cinema, predominantly in Tamil and Hindi films.

He is a winner of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, 15 Filmfare Awards and 17 Filmfare Awards South.

In 2010, the Indian government conferred him with the Padma Bhushan, the nation's third-highest civilian award.

Rahman's film-scoring career began during the early 1990s with the Tamil film Roja.

He went on to score several songs for Tamil language films, including Mani Ratnam's Bombay, Kadhalan, Thiruda Thiruda, and S Shankar's Gentleman.

Rahman's score for his first Hollywood film, the comedy Couples Retreat (2009), won the BMI Award for Best Score.

His music for Slumdog Millionaire (2008) earned him Best Original Score and Best Original Song at the 81st Academy Awards.

He was also awarded Best Compilation Soundtrack Album and Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

In 2009, he was included on the Time list of the world's 100 most influential people.

In 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
