#Showbiz: Sarimah happy to be an independent woman [NSTTV]

ACTRESS, singer, host and radio announcer Cik Puan Sarimah Ibrahim recently made waves for her role in the successful TV3 drama series 'Lelaki Itu', which became the No. 1 series on Tonton.

Some might see this as her comeback, but the 45-year-old artiste said she has remained active in the entertainment industry.

Sarimah, who is of Malay and Irish heritage, married Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar in 2015 and they have a daughter, Tunku Sofia Najihah.

"After my contract with Astro ended in 2010, I was a presenter at Red FM for two years, then at Mix FM for another two years.

"I accepted the offer because I was thinking about the future, in addition to wanting to save money to buy a house.

"When I appeared in 'Lelaki Itu', many people said I was making a comeback, but I wasn't.

"I never took a long break to focus on my family. I continued my career as a host," she said in a recent report.

Asked why she worked even though her husband is a member of Negri Sembilan royalty, Sarimah said she liked to be independent.

The eldest of four siblings said she was taught to be independent and she felt more comfortable having her own money without depending on her husband.

"I work for myself, while the needs of the household and children are my husband's responsibility. I like to be independent as I feel good handling my own money.

"Besides, if I don't work and want to buy a gift for my husband's birthday, I'd have to use my husband's money. Sure, the gift would be from me, but it would be like my husband buying it for himself."
