New Snoezelen Room

THE National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) has launched its new Snoezelen Room facility at its Gombak centre as part of its tools for assessment and intervention.

The Snoezelen Room is designed to deliver stimuli to various senses and it offers a relaxed atmosphere with pleasant surroundings, soothing sounds, captivating aromas, tactile experiences and interesting light effects for the user.

The room provides a space where a variety of interventions can be tailored to meet a need (or needs) quickly and easily, whether it be therapeutic, educational, or focused on using sensory equipment to calm, soothe, or stimulate mental and physical effectiveness and is guaranteed to be safe.

“We are thrilled to expand our centre’s offering with the opening of our new Snoezelen Room in Gombak. We wish to extend our gratitude to Danajamin for assisting us to realise this facility in one of our centres,”says Feilina Feisol, chairman of NASOM.

Through its Danajamin Mighty Run 2017 event, Danajamin extended support to NASOM by raising awareness about autism among the public and subsequently channeled public contributions to set up the Snoezelen Room.

“We hope our students, teachers as well as the public will be able to benefit positively from this multi-sensory facility,” adds Feilina.

Mohamed Nazri Omar, chief executive officer/managing director of Danajamin Nasional Berhad says the company sees a lot of opportunities to help the autism community and wants to be part of its development and growth.

“We have always been supporting NASOM and championing autism awareness. Together with NASOM, we want to improve the quality of life of people with autism and their families and we hope to continue playing our role, particularly in providing a conducive learning environment for autistic children.”

The facility in Gombak is accessible to students in the centre and members of the public aged 3-14 years who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. NASOM has 20 treatment centres nationwide, supported by 10 therapists and 150 specially trained teachers to manage and assist autistic children.

The “Danajamin Mighty Run” is Danajamin Nasional Berhad’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to raise public awareness on autism.

Danajamin Mighty Run 2018 will be held on Nov 24 at Perdana Botanical Gardens, Kuala Lumpur. To participate in this event, participants can register their entries at www.ticket2u.com.my until Nov 15.
