#JOM Go: Explore marine worlds

Be a marine biologist for a day. This is one of the things kids get to experience at Sea Life, Legoland, writes Zulkifly Ab Latif

LEARNING doesn't need to stop even though it's school holidays. Legoland Malaysia Theme Park however makes learning more enjoyable at its most recent attraction, Sea Life.

Introduced last May, the themed and interactive aquarium offers visitors a fun and educational underwater experience through compelling storytelling and up-close interactions.

Visitors, especially children, will definitely be inspired to learn more about the Earth's oceans while exploring the aquarium's 11 different habitat zones.

The massive underwater tunnel is perhaps one of the most impressive zones, offering a 180-degree view of the marine world above it, as well as glimpses of majestic Black Tip Reef Sharks.

The Rock Pool habitat zone offers a more hands-on experience for visitors, where they can actually touch marine critters such as starfish and sea cucumbers.

Patterned on natural rock pools which are shallow pools of seawater that form on rocky intertidal shores, this habitat zone is a fun and unique opportunity to learn more about intertidal micro-habitats and the fascinating creatures that make it their home.

MINISTRY-ENDORSED PROGRAMME

With such an immersive and interactive aquarium, Legoland has introduced the Sea Life education programme that encourages creativity and fosters innovation while ensuring children acquire scientific knowledge and skills.

Among others, the programme offers an opportunity for children to be marine biologists for a day, observing microorganisms under microscopes or learning about the importance of recycling and the impact of pollution on nature.

This programme has even gained the recognition and endorsement of the Ministry of Education, being the second endorsement the theme park has received by the ministry.

To celebrate this milestone, Legoland Malaysia Resort is giving away 10,000 free tickets to students and teachers from rural schools so that they may benefit from an interactive and engaging educational experience.

“The endorsement of the Sea Life Education Programme marks our commitment in offerring a robust learning centre that stimulates our children's curiosity of the natural world and how they can help protect it. With MoE endorsed programmes, Legoland Malaysia Resort is the perfect place for children to enjoy outdoor learning activities that are aligned with the school curriculum,

”says Thila Munusamy, director of sales and marketing.

“We want to create an impact in our community through a CSR programme”, she adds.

“This month, we are welcoming 10,000 children and teachers from underserved rural schools to benefit from our fun learning experiences. By working with the MOE and the State Education Department (JPN), we are also able to expand our outreach to schools across the country with our Eduplay Express Bus. “

The bus brings our educational programmes directly to students and offers them an exciting interactive out-of-classroom learning platform. To date, the bus has visited more than 1,000 schools in Peninsular Malaysia and this number is steadily growing.
