BACK when coffee culture and hip cafes did not grow so rapidly in the country, there was Dome, a 26-year old establishment that was the go-to for satisfying cafe food and coffee drinks for meet-up with colleagues and friends.
It remains popular for its delicious Chicken and Mushroom Pie and Espreski coffee drinks but as the cafe dining scene becomes competitive, the brand has introduced several new items to its menu.
The introduction coincides with Covid-19 protocol relaxation, especially in the Klang Valley, where those who have been fully vaccinated are now allowed to dine in restaurants.
WELL-MADE
The chefs at Dome have certainly made full use of the Movement Control Order (MCO) by coming up with dishes that could well become classics.
The Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich is a great brunch option. Despite its average-sounding name, this dish is very delicious without being heavy. There's a thin, crispy fried chicken, topped with coleslaw, fries and lettuce, sandwiched by toasted foccacia.
It's served with salad, which is great for extra boost of greens.
If you are looking for something meaty, Dome's Wagyu Burger is tender without going over-the-top, both in composition and in pricing. A juicy Wagyu beef patty and burger trimmings are sandwiched between warm, fluffy buns.
To be honest, I think Wagyu is best savoured as a steak. Minced beef doesn't quite capture the taste and flavour, but as far as burgers go and at RM38, this one is not bad.
MEDITERRANEAN TOUCH
Given that Mediterranean diet is associated with good health, it comes as no surprise that the new items have its influence. The Dome Salad, for example, is a hybrid of the Arabic salad fattoush and Mediterranean salad.
It is a mix of lettuce, capsicum and cucumber, balanced with fried Lebanese bread and tossed in lemon dressing. This one makes a good side dish to share with friends when your main meal is protein or carbohydrate-heavy. I like the tangy flavour that renders the dish light.
Then there's the Mediterranean Chicken Pita, made with Lebanese bread and filled with tomatoes, onion and cheese. The flavourful pita is served with a side of fries.
LIGHT AND EASY
The Falafel Wrap is pita bread stuffed with fried ground chickpea patties alongside gherkin, tomatoes, onion and a yoghurt-based sauce. This makes for a tasty, light and nutritious vegetarian meal.
Oh, and if you are into Korean fried chicken, Dome also has its own version of this wings and drumettes coated in signature Korean sticky sauce and sprinkled with sesame seed. Accompanied with a tangy carrot, cucumber and radish pickle, you can have this as a light snack or make it a meal with rice. There's Gangjeong Style or Hot 'n' Spicy, depending on your preferred flavour.
If you are thinking of going to Dome to catch up with friends, then give these new items a go. Like most of Dome's food, they are delicious and wholesome and you're bound to find a new favourite.
FRESH TAKE
Dome also unveiled its new Suria KLCC cafe recently, a large space right around the corner in a prime location that offers both indoor and outdoor dining options.
Its outdoor dining area affords a great view of the fountains and park as well as the KL city landscape. Glass windows and an open design concept let patrons indoors enjoy natural sunlight and greenery within the cool confines of an air-conditioned area.
