Carsome Academy plans to improve TVET offerings

CAR e-commerce platform Carsome is looking to further elevate its Carsome Academy's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offerings to further support the government's aim in strengthening the nation's tech and human capital ecosystem.

Carsome co-founder and Carsome Academy chief executive officer Jiun Ee Teoh said the company is looking forward to contributing its knowledge, expertise, and experience towards the creation of high quality jobs and opportunities that will cement Malaysia's attractiveness to world-class talents.

"Carsome Academy was founded to help meet the industry's demand for skilled automotive talents whilst creating positive social impact in local communities. It is encouraging how close TVET is to Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar's heart and we look forward to driving greater momentum in this space so that Malaysian youths can access solid opportunities to upskill and build a brighter future," he said during the minister's visit to the company's regional headquarters.

Sivakumar said Carsome's achievements have been truly remarkable as Malaysia's first 'tech unicorn'.

He said that their effort to digitalize the vehicle purchasing process in the country has led to the creation of various new jobs and business opportunities."

"I am intrigued by Carsome Academy, a brainchild of Carsome, which is instrumental in providing opportunities for our nation's youth to acquire skills in the automotive sector. This effort is in line with the government's effort to elevate TVET institutions in the country," Sivakumar added.

Carsome set up its first academy in January 2021 to offer Malaysian youths technical education and increase their employability.

The institution is a National Dual Training System (Sistem Latihan Dual Nasional — SLDN) training centre accredited by the Skills Development department under the Human Resources Ministry.

The academy has since expanded to Thailand and Indonesia and is an accredited centre in both countries.
