Volkswagen Germany plant cuts production of e-cars due to lack of motors

HANOVER: German carmaker Volkswagen is cutting back on production of two electric car models at its Emden plant in the state of Lower Saxony, the plant's spokeswoman told the dpa.

The production lines were at a standstill on Thursday and are expected to also be suspended on Friday and Monday, she said.

There is a lack of electric motors for the ID.4 and ID.7 models, however, the production of the Passat and Arteon combustion models will unchanged, she added.

"This only affects the electric cars," the spokeswoman said.

This comes after the announcement that another VW factory in Zwickau, in the state of Saxony, will also suspend its e-car production for the same reason. The Zwickau location only produces e-cars.

Supply chain disruptions are the main reason for the lack of motors, the spokeswoman said.
