Chery Malaysia to launch Omoda E5 EV in March

CHERY Malaysia's first electric vehicle (EV) is slated for a March launch.

The Omoda E5 electric sports utility vehicle (e-SUV) is expected to make its official debut some time before or during the Ramadan period if all plans pertaining to the model's launch goes accordingly.

The automaker revealed the timeline for the model's launch during its announcement of the inaugural Chery Eco Run 2024 event that will be taking place on Jan 7 at Dataran Wawasan Putrajaya.

Those who wish to participate in the run, which is available in 5km and 10km categories, can do so with entry tickets being priced as low as RM29.99.

Organized by Jom Run which boasts a membership of over 2 millions, the annual fun run themed "A New Journey To A New Green Life" is expected to attract over 3,000 participants.

Housing a blade lithium iron phosphate battery with a 61kWh capacity and a power consumption of 14.5/100km, the E5 is based on the internal combustion engine (ICE) Omoda 5.

It runs on a single flat wire three-in-one motor with two-wheel drive (2WD) setup with a delivery of 150kW or 201Hp and 340Nm torque.

The model has a 7.6 seconds century sprint record with a a range of 430 km. It has a low energy consumption of 15 kWh/100 km.

Its vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology has a 3.3kW external discharge capability.

The battery can charge from 30-80 per cent in just 30 minutes through its 80 kW/h DC fast charging technology - AC charging is at 9.9 kW/h.

It comes equipped with a new generation Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes seventeen functions such as blind-spot monitoring, reverse warning, and automatic emergency braking capable of recognizing pedestrians and cyclists.

Design-wise the E5 adopts the cross styling design for its exterior, with its light and shadow-cutting streamlined body and high-tech and futuristic front face.

It is expected to be accompanied by at least seven exterior colours and three interior colour-matching design choices.

The Omoda E5 is anticipated to be priced within the RM150,000 to RM160,000 range.
