Mecca crane collapse: Body of another Msian pilgrim identified

PUTRAJAYA: One more missing Malaysian pilgrims’ body has been identified, bringing the death toll to five.

The body of Zainun Taha, 69, was identified by a family member Faridah Mansor, also one of the injured victims, at the Muaissem morgue near Mina, Mecca, around midnight last night.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the victims will be buried in Mecca with the other victims announced yesterday.

He said two more Malaysian pilgrims are still missing and authorities are doing their best to search for them.

Jamil thanked the Saudi Arabia government, its embassy and Malaysian embassy in Saudi Arabia for its quick action and organised management in handling the tragedy.

He added, he and Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will be departing for Mecca this morning, to be with the injured victims and family members of those who died, and also to assist with search efforts.

"We will be going to meet the victims and family members. Be with them as many are distraught over what has happen.

"We will also overlook those who are injured, hopefully they can carry out their pilgrimage duties," he said.

Out of the 10 pilgrims who were injured, five were allowed to return to their hostels, while three injured victims were at Saudi Arabian hospitals and two at a medical centre.

Meanwhile, Abdul Muluk, 71, from Pantai Remis, Perak was found safe yesterday after being missing since the day of the incident.

LTH said, Abdul Muluk accidentally followed the Thai congregation on the day of the incident.
