UM listed in QS Top 150 rankings

KUALA LUMPUR: University Malaya (UM) entered the top 150 of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2015 to 2016.

It improved by five spots at 146 from its 2014 ranking of 151 and remained ahead of the rest of the local public universities and scored an overall score of 62.1 in its ranking.

Penang’s Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) came out at the 289th position, improving on its 2014 position by 20 spots.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) came out at the 303, 312 and 331 spots respectively.

QS said that Malaysian institutes of higher learning gained ground due to new method applied in their assessment.

It added that the local universities excelled in two of the five faculty areas, with UM, USM and UTM coming out among the world’s Top 100 for Engineering and Technology while UM and USM is among the top 100 for Social Sciences & Management.
