Dengue cases continue to rise

PUTRAJAYA: Dengue cases nationwide continue to rise with 87,812 cases and 234 deaths recorded throughout Malaysia, as of Sept 19.

Based on statistic provided by the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, the Health Ministry’s iDengue website showed Selangor leading the charts with 47,766 cases from Jan 4 to Sept 19.

The second highest is Johor (10,661), followed by Perak (7,477), Kuala Lumpur (5,690), Penang (3,868) and Kelantan (1,964).

Health Department director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said from Sept 6 to 12, a total of 2,604 cases of dengue were recorded in the country, showing an increase of 16.8 per cent compared to previous week.

He said despite a decline in the number of cases for the past eight weeks, there has been an increase recorded last week.
