Failed to overtake, assistant cook run over by lorry

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 20-year-old assistant cook was killed on the spot after being involved in a crash with a lorry near Kuala Ibai here, this morning.

State Public Order and Traffic Department chief Superintendent Kamaluddin Mohamad said the victim, Muhamad Saadri Mustafa from Bukit Gasing, Marang was heading towards his workplace at Tanjung Vista hotel in the 10.30am incident.

Kamaluddin said the victim who failed to overtake a Honda City car had rammed the rear of the car, causing him to lose control of his Yamaha 125Z bike and fell onto the opposite road.

He said Saadri was then ran over by a lorry which was heading towards Kuantan from Kuala Terengganu. He suffered serious head injuries. Both car and lorry drivers aged 40 and 45, escaped unhurt.

"Saadri’s body was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post mortem," he said when contacted at his office today.

Kamaluddin said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport At 1987 for reckless driving and causing hurt.
