Teenager found drowned at Lata Tembakah waterfalls

BESUT: The body of a 13-year-old who drowned at Lata Tembakah waterfalls, here, was found by a search-and-rescue team from the Jerteh Fire and Rescue station 25 minutes after an alert was raised yesterday morning.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relation officer Rozizah Abnihajar said the station received a distress call at 10.55am and a team of six firemen was deployed to the scene for search and rescue operation.

Rozizah said Mohd Najib Kamil, a Form One student from Kampung Bukit Payung, Jerteh, went missing while bathing with several friends at the waterfalls around 10am.

“Our team found Mohd Najib’s body 25 minutes after the search-and-rescue operation began," she said, adding that the body was sent to the Besut Hospital for post-mortem.
