Haze reduces visibility to less than 1km in Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR: Poor visibility is recorded in the Klang Valley as Malaysians have to suffer from haze due to the peat fires in Indonesia.

The visibility for areas in Klang Valley are 900 meters for Subang, 800 meters for Sepang and 400 metres for Petaling Jaya as 12pm.

According to the Environment Department's portal, all areas in Klang Valley however recorded a moderate Air Pollutant Index (API).

Areas with the highest API reading in the Klang Valley were Port Klang (64), Putrajaya (61) Batu Muda (58) and Shah Alam (58) as stated in the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met) portal at 11am.

Meanwhile, Met said the low visibility of less than 5km near the waters of Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang and Sarawak would continue for two days.

It said areas near Straits of Melaka, Tioman, Bunguran, Kuching and Reef South would also face similar situation.

“Strong south-westerly winds traveling between 40km to 50km per hour and waves as high as 3.5 metres due to the rough seas were expected to persist in the waters off Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Palawan and Sulu.

“This situation will continue until Monday,” it said in a statement adding that the current poor visibility and strong wind were dangerous to small craft and sea recreations or sports.
