IBBM renamed AICB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Institute of Bankers Malaysia (IBBM) has been renamed the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), following its effort to reposition IBBM and define its roles as a professional body for bankers.

The core purpose of AICB is to professionalise the banking profession by raising the standard and quality of its membership, said AICB in a statement.

The 37-year old Institute introduces a new membership framework to uphold professional standards and ensure the rightful recognition of its prestigious membership status through the Chartered Banker programme, enforcing codes of ethics and conduct, and strengthening the quality of its awards and examinations.

"There is the need to embed high standards of professionalism into the course curricula, so as to establish a higher quality of talent that must be sufficiently tested and attained to ensure the public trust, and this has made us rethink our role in educating our own learners and to relook at the enabling capacities of professional education for the new inclusive century," chief executive officer Tay Kay Luan said.-- Bernama
