Chinese national caught with RM400,000 worth of syabu

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah customs officers detained a Chinese woman after she tried to smuggle in syabu worth RM400,300 at the low cost terminal here, on July 6.

This is the second arrest after authorities nabbed a woman, also from China, with syabu worth a million ringgit at the same airport, on June 22.

In the recent arrest, State Customs director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok said customs officers stopped the woman, aged 24, at the arrival hall.

"She was travelling alone here via Hong Kong. The drugs were hidden in her luggage compartment.

"The two incidents have similar modus operandi and we are investigating whether the two suspects are connected, " he said in a press conference.

Janathan said this could be the work of a syndicate, adding the woman had entered to the state twice and that she had contacts here.
